Some ideas for walks to get off the tourist trails
La Balade: Around Beuvron-en-Auge, classified among the "Most Beautiful Villages of France", a loop of about 6 km (easy, about 2 hours) immerses you in the typical landscape of the Normandy bocage. The circuit "Village and bocage" (available on sites like Visorando) is well indicated and offers beautiful views of the village and the surrounding countryside. You will discover hollow paths, half-timbered houses and orchards.
The Picnic: This circuit specifically mentions a picnic area set up along the way (often towards the place called "La Chapelle" or on the heights offering a panorama). Alternatively, the village of Beuvron-en-Auge itself, with its picturesque square and market hall, offers benches and pleasant spaces for an improvised picnic after your walk.
Why here? The combination of a postcard village, an accessible hike and the possibility of a picnic with a view.
La Balade: Explore a portion of the famous Route du Cidre around Cambremer. Several cider producers open their estates and offer walking trails through their orchards. You can opt for a ride of variable length (from a few kilometers to ten), often easy, following the small roads and paths that wind between the apple trees. Loops are suggested by local tourist offices or hiking sites.
The Picnic: Many producers have picnic areas (sometimes covered) within their estates, such as Calvados Pierre Huet in Cambremer. The Jardins du Pays d'Auge in Cambremer also offer a charming setting for a picnic (entrance fee for the gardens). Otherwise, a simple bench by the roadside, in the shade of an apple tree (with the owner’s agreement if you are on private property not marked for hiking), can offer an idyllic setting.
Why here? The immersion in the terroir of the Pays d'Auge, the beauty of the orchards (especially in spring in bloom or in autumn with apples) and the welcome of the producers.
La Balade: The Terre d'Auge Community of Communes has marked out several trails.
Around Pierrefitte-en-Auge: A loop of about 8 km (easy to average, about 2h30-3h) you will discover the rich built heritage (half-timbered houses, farms) and the typical hilly landscapes. Some points offer beautiful panoramas of the countryside.
Starting from the Torquesne: The circuit "In the heart of the Bocage" (about 10-11 km, average difficulty, about 3 hours) is a beautiful immersion in the hollow paths and traditional landscapes of the Pays d'Auge, with its half-timbered houses.
The Picnic: Although official picnic areas are not always indicated directly on all the trails, these routes cross natural areas where it is possible to find a pleasant spot of grass with a beautiful view to settle. Plan a tablecloth and look for an environmentally friendly place. The forecourt of some small country churches, such as that of Reux (a little further away, but renowned for its panoramic view), can also offer a setting (check the tranquility and the absence of prohibition).
Why here? For the discovery of the traditional Augeron habitat and the unobstructed views of the bocage, offering a peaceful atmosphere for your meal.
La Balade: For a different atmosphere, the hike "Bois du Breuil and beach in Honfleur" (about 13 km, medium difficulty, about 4h) combines forest and coast. It leads you through the charming Bois du Breuil, up to the Côte de Grâce with its chapel and its exceptional panorama over the estuary of the Seine and the Pont de Normandie, then back down to Honfleur and its beach.
The Picnic: Several options are available to you: a picnic in the forest in the Bois du Breuil, a meal with panoramic views near the chapel of Notre-Dame de Grâce (benches are often available), or a picnic on the beach of Butin in Honfleur.
Why here? The diversity of landscapes, from forest trails to sea views, and the proximity of the city of art and history of Honfleur.
Some tips for your picnic:
Respect for nature: Take all your waste, do not make a fire, and respect private properties.
Equipment: Provide a tablecloth or blanket, bags for your waste, water, and suitable walking shoes.
